Septic Tank Pumping Schedules for Septic Systems in Hopkinton
Not all septic systems use the normal flow of gravity - some septic systems are augmented with a special pump that transfers household wastewater from the tank to a pump chamber, and then eventually out to the drainfield.
Many times these submerged drain pumps are equipped with an alarm to alert the homeowner if the septic pump fails. Immediate attention would be necessary if the pump fails, because it is the pump (not gravity) that pushes waste water through the system and out into the drainfield.
Our Hopkinton customer Doug G. called us for some routine maintenance. It had been a few years since he had his tank inspected, and he wanted to be sure it was all in working order.
It was a good thing that Doug called Grant’s Septic Techs, because upon inspection, we found that not only was his septic tank almost full (with 11 inches of sludge) but the pump chamber alarm float wasn’t working properly, and had not alerted him to the status of the septic tank.
Fortunately, we were able to fully pump out both tanks and arranged for an electrician to fix the pump chamber alarm float. After our servicing, Doug’s septic system was fully functioning again, and wasn’t scheduled for maintenance for another five years, saving him money from unnecessary septic tank pumpings in between.

Title V Inspections for Septic Systems in Hopkinton, MA
Title V septic system inspections are an important part of a purchase and sale of a home. Realtors rely on Grant’s Septic Techs to ensure that the home’s septic system is working properly before transfer of ownership.
James, a real estate agent, called us to inspect the septic system at his seller’s Hopkinton home that had not been serviced for years. James was worried that the septic system may not pass… and would hold up the pending sale of the home.
When Grant’s Septic Techs inspected the seller’s septic system, we discovered almost two feet of sludge! This is well over the recommended limit of one foot of sludge. Thankfully, when we performed a thorough cleanout, we found that no damage had been done, and that tank was still in great condition.
Despite the excess buildup of sludge from lack of proper maintenance due to the tank never fully being pumped by previous company, we were able to prepare the system for the home sale, and the system passed the Title V inspection.

Septic Tank Pumping in Hopkinton, MA
It’s not unusual for homeowners to be told that they should pump their septic tank every year. Our Hopkinton customer Radhika called us for a pumping and asked us for a customized septic tank pumping maintenance schedule.
When we looked at the tank, there was very little buildup in the tank since the previous pumping a year ago. There were only two residents in Radhika’s home - and clearly the septic tank could fully function for several years before needing to be pumped again!
We put Radhika on a 4 year septic tank pumping schedule - saving him hundreds of dollars of wasted annual pumpings that they just didn’t need.
“Derek was great. He showed up on time even though it was bad weather! Checked our septic system for maintenance and said didn’t need to pump for the next 3 years! Saved me some money right there! Thanks!”
